Premier Poetry Comics Reading TURSDAY 25 7:30
As most of you know, April Heck has put together a bomb reading series. The first one is tomorrow, Thursday the 25th at 7:30. What makes it unique is its use of mixed genre and love of the good times--GENX. So we'll have fiction, poetry, monologues....and comics.
JUSTIN TAYLOR! I like what he does a lot, and love the magazine he works on Agricultural Reader. NICK FLYNN! Who has great titles, and is a kick-ass writer.
I've never in my life used PowerPoint, and the version I have is old and I have to do weird things to get the application to even open...needless to say, I'm SO nervous about technical problems at the reading.
I'm going to project my entire reading onto the wall. In all honesty, I'm a traditional writer, I like the poem all on its own, and I don't do overly crazy things with line breaks or form. I like illusive narrative mixed with direct, detached truths about the human condition, and I don't want my poems to be lost in the novelty of drawing around them...
That said, I am so god damned thrilled to be finally giving my poetry comics a moment in the spotlight. If anyone is PowerPoint savoy and wants to hold my hand by the projector, I would be much obliged. I'll buy you a drink and draw you drinking it.
(As a back-up I am bringing pure-poems to read. Eek.)
I have been working on a new comic for the reading, and by working on it, I mean I am scanning it in right now and redrawing half of THE LADDER.
PLEASE come! I will be selling/giving away a lot of my comics.
I'm posting a sample of the new stuff.
